Swimming in the Ovens River & Beyond

Nothing says summer in Victoria’s High Country quite like a refreshing dip in the Ovens River. Just a short stroll from Bright Valley Holiday Park, you’ll find crystal-clear shallows, deeper pools for a good swim, and peaceful spots to cool off after a day of exploring.

Why the Ovens River is a Local Favourite

The Ovens River flows gently through Porepunkah and Bright, offering safe, family-friendly swimming spots as well as secluded areas for a more tranquil experience. The water is fed by Alpine streams, making it fresh and cool even on the warmest days.

Popular Swimming Spots Nearby

While the river near our park is perfect for a quick dip, the surrounding area has plenty of other swimming holes worth discovering:

  • Porepunkah Riverside Park: A grassy riverbank with shallow swimming areas, perfect for families with younger children.
  • Bright Splash Park & Riverside Pool: Just minutes away, this riverside spot offers both natural swimming areas and a free splash park for kids.
  • Morse’s Creek: A peaceful creek in nearby Wandiligong, great for a quiet paddle or wade.
  • Tronoh Dredge Hole: Located in Harrietville, this deep, calm lake is popular for swimming, kayaking, and even stand-up paddleboarding.

Tips for a Safe & Fun Swim

Always check the current and depth before swimming, especially after heavy rain. Children should be supervised at all times, and it’s a good idea to wear water shoes in rocky areas. In summer, bring a hat and sunscreen — the Alpine sun can be strong.
