The Horn – Mt. Buffalo

The High Point of Your Mount Buffalo Adventure

The Horn is Mount Buffalo’s highest point, offering 360° alpine views from a spectacular summit boardwalk. At 1,723 metres above sea level, it’s the perfect spot to take in the vast beauty of Victoria’s High Country — from rugged granite tors to the distant peaks of the Australian Alps.

The Walk

From The Horn Picnic Area, follow the well-marked track uphill through granite boulders to the start of the summit boardwalk. The walk is short but has a steady incline, so take your time to enjoy the alpine scenery. The final boardwalk section wraps around the granite outcrop and leads to a viewing platform where the panorama stretches in every direction.

Best Time to Visit

The Horn is stunning year-round. In summer, the alpine air is cool and wildflowers bloom along the track. Autumn brings crisp days and clear skies, while winter can see snow and ice dusting the granite. For truly unforgettable light, visit at sunrise or sunset when the colours over the Alps are at their most dramatic.
